Steps 1–2: How To Apply

Applying for in-home support services involves several steps to help ensure you receive the appropriate care and support tailored to your needs. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you navigate the application process.

Step 1: Determine Your Eligibility

In QLD, in-home support services are often funded through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). To be eligible for NDIS funding, you must:

  • Be under 65 years of age
  • Have a permanent & significant disability
  • Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or hold a Protected Special Category Visa

Step 2: Develop Your NDIS Plan

If you are eligible, the next step is to develop your NDIS plan. This involves a planning meeting with an NDIS planner or Local Area Coordinator (LAC). During this meeting, you will discuss your goals, needs and the types of support required to help you live independently. Be sure to mention your need for in-home support services.

Step 3: Choose Your Management Style

Decide how you want to manage your NDIS funding. You can choose from:

  • Self-management: You handle the budgeting and payments yourself.
  • Plan management: A plan manager handles the financial transactions.
  • NDIA management: The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) manages the funding and payments directly.

Step 4: Find and Engage Service Providers

Once your plan is approved, you can look for a service provider: Learn to Live.

Step 5: Set Up and Begin Services

After selecting us, we will work with you to set up your in-home support services. This involves creating a service agreement that outlines the support you will receive, the costs and the schedule. Once everything is agreed upon, you can begin receiving your in-home support services.
